About Me

Name: Jovanna Aguirre I like movies with action, comedy, drama, romance, and thriller. For me a movie in order to be awesomeness it has to keep me on my toes and it has to make me feel as though I'm there with the characters in action. It has to make me feel all of the emotions it contributes, cause if it doesn't then it obviously sucks. Lol :) My Movie Rating Scale (: <3<3<3<3<3 for awesomeness <3<3<3 for it's alright, it's okay <3 for it's great, it's pretty passable

Sin Nombre

Director: Cary Fukunaga

Producer: Amy Kaufman

Genre: Adventure, Crime, Drama, Thriller

Writer: Cary Fukunaga

Released: 2009

Time: 1 hr. 39 mins.

Movie Rating: 88 %

Sin Nombre is about two young adults, Willy “El Casper” (Edgar Flores) and Sayra (Paulina Gaitan) traveling to go to America and crossing the United States border illegally, but during their journey Casper’s past comes in trouble them. Sayra is traveling to cross the border in search of a better life in America and Casper is escaping from his past. He is escaping from his past, because he has murdered his gang’s, “La Mara Salvatrucha or the MS13”, leader. He murdered his leader, Lil’ Mago (Tenoch Huerta Mejia), because Lil’ Mago killed his love, Martha Marlene (Diana Garcia). So when Casper and Sayra’s lives meet they click and they start liking eachother, so they continue their journey together. The journey turns into Casper running from the MS13 or La Mara Salvatrucha and Sayra sticking by and following Casper.
This film is great, because it gives you a deeper look into the lives of the most dangerous gang organization, the MS13. It demonstrates the way that they operate and how they gain their ranks within the gang. This is shown through Smiley (Kristian Ferrer) and how through out the film he is determined to kill Casper to gain his tattoo of the MS13 to gain rank within the gang. Then we see how that for them if you bare the mark of the MS13 then you’ll always be protected everywhere you go if there is a MS13 clan in that area. Then it shows how they will kill you if are not part of the MS13. Like when they kill that “chaval” and feed his corpse to the dogs. Now that is extreme. Then it shows how they have no respect for the women outside of their gang. This is show in the scene of when Lil’ Mago tries to rape Martha Marlene. This scene also shows that if they want something they will just take it no matter what. This film is great, because it also shows how hard it is to get out of that troubled life. This is show through how Casper tries to escape, but obviously that doesn’t work. Then it also shows how they punish the members that don’t obey orders or that mess up the orders that are given to them. Their punishment is to be beat up by other members of the clan or gang for 13 seconds. This is also how you get initiated into the gang as well. Then the film is great because it shows how two extremely different lives can meet and be united, without even really knowing each other or even knowing what that stranger can do to you. This scene through the relationship that Casper and Sayra develop through their journey on the train and their escape from the MS13.
My rating for this film adventure, crime, drama, thriller is: <3 for it’s great, it’s pretty passable

Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family

Director: Tyler Perry

Producers: Roger M. Bobb, Reuben Cannon, Tyler Perry

Genre: Comedy, Drama

Writer: Tyler Perry

Released: 2011

Time: 1 hr. 46 mins.

Movie Rating: 41 %

Madea’s Big Happy Family is about Shirley’s (Loretta Devine) family. Shirley has three children, Kimberly (Shannon Kane), Tammy (Natalie Desselle), and Byron (Shad ‘Bow Wow’ Moss). Now this family has been broken up and has been in a quarrel for many years. Therefore making them anything, but a “Big Happy Family.” Now Shirley is trying to bring them together, because she has been battling cancer for the past 7 years, and now her cancer is final and she only has 6 to 7 weeks to live.So she is bring them together to tell them that she has cancer, because no one knows, except for Aunt Bam (Cassi Davis), the woman that takes care of and lives with Shirley. Though Madea has nothing directly to do with this family after Aunt Bam tells her what is going on with Shirley’s children, she takes it upon herself to get Tammy, Kimberly, and Byron to go to the dinner that Shirley is preparing to tell them she has cancer.
Okay, so if anyone has seen any of Tyler Perry’s Madea movies they would understand why these movies are so popular and great. Madea is just a plain mess, but within all that mess there’s a wise woman, to whom if you know how to look past all that mess you see that you can learn many things from her. Anyway, this movie is so funny. It literally has you laughing the entire time. For starts you have Byron’s bay mama drama, which just right there is like completely hilarious. Especially Byron’s baby mama, Sabrina (Teyana Taylor) and the way she says his name. When she says it she sounds like a siren. Then there’s Aunt Bam and her weed. Then there’s the scene when Sabrina and Madea meets at this burger place that it’s literally an OMG scene. Like in this scene you see why Madea is so crazy, like seriously. Then there’s the scene when Madea disciplines Tammy rude ass kids and she teaches them how to speak proper. “Say Heller, Heller. Okay now you know how to speak proper.” Then there’s Joe (Tyler Perry), and his (800) hotline for baby daddies who have ever had to pay child support for them crazy baby mamas, like Byron. “1-800-Choke-That-Hoe.”
Either way all together this film, like all of the Madea film, are a true comedy, but within that comedy there is always a moral to the film. So the moral or the message of this film is that you should never hold grudges against those you love, because if you do you never know when they’ll be gone, and when they’re gone then you will never have the chance to say that you love them, that you forgive them, and that you are sorry for hurting them.
My rating for this comedy, drama is defintely: <3<3<3<3<3 awesomeness

Soul Surfer

Director: Sean McNamara

Producer: David Brookwell

Genre: Action, Drama, Sport

Writers: Sean McNamara, Deborah Schwartz

Released: 2011

Time: 1 hr. 46 mins.

Movie Rating: 52 %

Soul Surfer is a true story about a surfer, Bethany Hamilton (AnnaSophia Robb), who suffered a tragic shark attack where she loses her entire right arm. Though she has this disability and will not be able to continue surfing she does. She excepts her disability, never complains, and works hard to find tactics that serve her disability and her disadvantages as a surfer. So do to her hard work and perseverance she becomes and turns into a professional surfer.
I enjoyed this movie, because it does not sugar coat Bethany’s tragic situation. I liked it, because it shows the hard work that a person with that type of disability has to go through. I liked it, because it shows the scarring and the trauma that a person has to go through do to the comments of others around them. Then I enjoyed this film, because this film nits me right at home. I relate to this film so much, because only to years ago I had to go through a situation just the same. My uncle suffered a tragic accidents to where he lost part of his leg. To be exact from his knee down. So believe me when I say that the process for a person who is missing either a leg or a arm or anything for that matter is extremely hard and extremely painful. Though there is a difference between Bethany and my uncle. The difference is that my uncle has a prosthetic leg and Bethany does not have a prosthetic arm.
In this film there was a specific scene that just had me in complete tears. The scene is when she gets her covering removed from her shoulder and she sees her stitches for the first time. At that moment watching the film I had a flashback of when I saw my uncle’s stitches for the first time. Let me tell you I felt as though my heart shank to my stomach. It was just hard to remember, I guess you could say.
Anyway, the film for me was very strong, because it made me relive parts of my life that where very tragic and sad, but besides that I believe the film was great. I believe it was great, because it shows perseverance and the lesson of never giving up, because if you have the will and the strength to move forward, then everything is possible.
My rating for this action, drama, sports film is: <3<3<3<3<3 for awesomeness

Just Go With It

Director: Dennis Dugan

Producer: Jack Giarraputo

Genre: Comedy, Romance

Writers: Allan Loeb, Timothy Dowling

Released: 2011

Time: 1 hr. 57 mins.

Movie Rating: 18 %

Just Go With It is about Danny (Adam Sandler), who is a plastic surgeon, who was once going to get married, but did not, because he discovered that his fiancee was only going to marry him for his future money. So he goes to a bar and he is wearing his wedding ring and that’s when he realizes that women are extremely interested and attracted to married and committed men. So from that day and on he pretended to be a married man and would give these ridiculous sob stories to get young women. Until he meets Palmer (Brooklyn Decker), a young school teacher, to whom he believes is the love of his life. So now Danny has to make up this big story to avoid telling Palmer his ugly truth of how he seduces women. So Danny to make this believable he asks his secretary and best friend, Katherine (Jennifer Aniston) to help him. So she helps him by pretending to be his wife, to whom he is formally separated from and is continuing with the divorce papers.
So I would have to say that this movie is extremely funny from beginning to the end. What I loved most about this movie is how it makes fun of the people who get like extreme plastic surgery. Plastic surgery to the point where they do not feel their face anymore. To the point where they look extremely ridiculous. To where they look from like a different planet. A different planet with individuals with body parts too big for their own body size. Just remembering it makes me laugh-out-loud (Lol). Then there is Katherine’s children, Maggie (Bailee Madison) and Michael (Griffin Gluck), who just take full advantage of their dear uncle Danny and fake father. The ways that they manipulate the situation are just ridiculous, but they are what makes this movie so much better. Then there’s this friend-enemy of Katherine’s that appearances in the movie and her competitiveness towards Katherine just makes things even better. Then there’s this one seen that just blows you away of how ridiculous things can get for winning. Then what I most loved about this movie was the message that it gives. The message that it gives is that you should not look to far for love and for the perfect family, because if you look too far then you might miss what is directly around you and by your side. After watching this movie I would have to say that this is my second most favorite movie of Adam Sandler behind Big Daddy from 1999.
So after all this laughter I would have to rate this comedy, romance movie a: <3<3<3<3, which is between awesomeness and it’s alright, it’s okay.

Fast Five

Director: Justin Lin

Producer: Neal H. Mortiz

Genre: Action, Crime, Drama, Thriller

Writers: Chris Morgan, Gary Scott Thompson

Released: 2011

Time: 2 hrs. 10 mins

Movie Rating: 79 %

Fast Five is the continuation of the story of Dominic Torretto (Vin Diesel) and his family, Mia Torretto (Jordana Brewster) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker). The movie begins where the last movie, Fast and Furious: New Model, Original Parts, ended. The movie begins with Dom’s escape from prison. Then the rest of the movie takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which is where Vince (Matt Schulze) lives. A little flashback or reminder, Vince is like Dom’s brother, we haven’t seen him since the first, the original The Fast and The Furious. Anyway, there in Rio de Janeiro the whole gang or crew meets up with Dom, Brian, and Mia. Then there the crew comes across police or Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and his police crew, and they, also, come across a very or extremely powerful drug dealer, Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida). This makes matters even worse, because Reyes is the ruler of Rio de Janeiro.
Either way, so I would have to say that this is the best movie so far in the entire year, this year. Then again, the Fast and the Furious movies are always awesomeness. They never seem to disappoint me, except for one, which is the The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift one. These movies I would have to say are my all time favorite. Anyway, what I loved about this movie is practically everything. It kept me on my toes the entire time, and the special effects were amazing. It kept me on my toes, because I couldn’t predict what was gonna happen. There were many different and new events in the movie. Events that I would have never imagined. Then the cars were amazing as always and then the driving was perfect. Then the characters just keep getting better. I loved the fact that the writing of the movie added many new and old faces. The many new faces in the movie fitted extremely well in the whole plot. Then my most favorite thing of the movie was the message it sent. In between all the action and the thriller the movie sent a message, and the message was “that you should not judge a book by it’s.” This is portrayed by Dom and Hobbs, because there is a scene in the end where Dom shows Hobbs that even though he is demonstrated to be a criminal without limits, Dom shows him that he has a heart and that he is a human being with morals and values, through everything that he has done. Then there is the little humor that Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), Leo (Tego Calderon), and Santos (Don Omar) give that I absolutely love and that just makes the movie so much better. All in all if you have not noticed yet these movies just absolutely amaze me and I could watch them millions of times and never get tired of them.
Therefore my rating for this action, crime, drama, thriller is: <3<3<3<3<3 for awesomeness.
